Insurance
The chance of a 20 year old worker becoming disabled before their retirement is upwards of 30%. In another study, 87% of those surveryed said they didn't think that disability was something that would ever happen to them. Canadians are simply not dealing with the fact that it is very possible that they will deal with some sort of disability (depression, anxiety, cancer, heart disease, back injury, etc.) at some point in their lifetimes, and while worker's compensation can help some who become disabled on the job, the most frequent causes of disability ARE NOT due to job related injuries and WOULD NOT be covered by worker's compensation.
Canadians are more likely to protect themselves with life insurance, but if you're one of the millions of unprotected Canadians it's certianly worth asking yourself this question: "Would my death leave anyone I know in a financial bind?" If you answered "YES", then it's probably time to talk about ensuring that your debts will be taken care of and protecting your loved ones.
